About Us
Who We Are
We are survivors. We are allies. We are the Under the Dark Sail Crew.
Formed in response to the harm too often hidden within Faire, festival, and performance communities, we are a collective of people who have experienced sexual abuse in these spaces — and those who stand beside us in solidarity, accountability, and change.
Our stories are not distant memories. This harm is ongoing, and it must be acknowledged, confronted, and transformed.
We come together not out of resentment, but out of truth. Not in secrecy, but in community. We reclaim space, voice, and safety for all who have been silenced, dismissed, or endangered under the banners of tradition, performance, or camaraderie.
What We Do
Center Survivor Voices We create protected, trauma‑aware spaces where survivors can share their experiences — unfiltered, unperformed, and on their own terms. These stories are not entertainment. They are evidence, resilience, and a call for change.
Provide Resources We curate survivor‑support tools, trauma‑informed guidance, reporting pathways, and educational materials for both survivors and allies seeking to understand, intervene, and prevent further harm.
Build Community We cultivate connection, care, and collective healing. Whether you are a survivor, an ally, or someone confronting your own role in these systems, there is a place for you here.
Why We Exist
Because silence protects perpetrators — never survivors. Because Faire culture must evolve beyond nostalgia, hierarchy, and unchecked power. Because safety is not an accessory to the experience; it is the foundation of it.
We call on organizers, owners, guilds, cast, crew, and patrons to face the harm that persists in their midst. To listen. To act. To rebuild these communities with integrity and accountability.
We are the Under the Dark Sail Crew. We are here. We are watching. We are not going anywhere.
Mission Statement
Under the Dark Sail exists to confront the harm hidden within Faire and festival culture by centering survivor voices, providing trauma‑informed resources, and building a community committed to accountability, safety, and cultural transformation.
